Inktober 2019
Here are all my drawings for the 2019 Inktober challenge.
I followed the official prompt list, with my own theme of "Soaring in Israel".
It was my first time doing the challenge - and I made it!
I've kept up and did a drawing every single day of the challenge, on the day!

Day 1: Ring
A pair of Tost Rings, hanging out the back of a tow plane.
זוג טבעות "טוסט", משתלשלות מזנב המטוס הגורר.
Day 2: Mindless
Nothing good could come out of walking around the airfield mindlessly...
שום דבר טוב לא יכול לצאת מלהסתובב במנחת כשהראש במקום אחר...
Day 3: Bait
This is my story of taking the bait. It was a beautiful c.u. cloud over Mt. Tabor, and I ended up landing out right in front of it.
The drawing turned out much grittier than I anticipated. Not sure about drawing the sky with a texture. The inking challenge is indeed, challenging :)
הענן הזה פיתה הרבה אנשים, ואני יודעת על לפחות ארבעה אנשים, כולל אני, שנחתו בדיוק בשדה הזה מול התבור :)
Day 4: Freeze
When you land, and find yourself in an oscillation, the thing to do is FREEZE the controls. If you try chasing the oscillation you'll only make it worse. Instead, let the glider settle and stabilize.
This will be so interesting to do in color! Definitely a keeper :)
כשנוחתים בדאון, אם את מוצאת עצמך באוסילציה, תנועה מחזורית מעלה ומטה, הדבר לעשות הוא להקפיא הגאים. אם תנסי לרדוף אחרי התנועה זה רק יחריף את המצב. חכי שהדאון יתייצב וישקע, ותנחתי כמו מלכה :)
נראה לי יהיה כיף לעשות מהרישום הזה ציור גדול בצבע.
Day 5: Build
Quite a few pilots in my club must assemble their glider every time they want to fly.
Here are the instructions:
1. Write your name on the take off que!
2. Assemble glider :)
כמה וכמה מהטייסים במועדון שלי צריכים להרכיב את הדאון שלהם כל פעם שהם רוצים לטוס.

Day 6: Husky
This was an easy choice - our powerful Piper-Pawnee tow plane is the perfect fit for this word :)
בחירה קלה למילה של היום - המטוס הגורר שלנו, מסוג פייפר פוני, הוא שרירי ומסוקס :)
Day 7: Enchanted
Pilot's Halo, over Jezreel Valley, with (sort of) Mt. Gilboa in the background.
This Black and White restriction is really teaching me a lot about composition, planning and values.
הילת הטייס, מעל עמק יזרעאל, עם (בערך) הר גלבוע ברקע. התרגיל של ציור בשחור לבן בלבד מלמד אותי הרבה על קומפוזיציה, תכנון וכהה-בהיר.
Day 8: Frail
Saw this just last Saturday at the Megiddo airfield - Virga, Hanging rain. The air was hot and humid, and the rain never made it to the ground.
ראיתי את התופעה הזו ממש בשבת האחרונה - וירגה, גשם תלוי. האויר היה חם ולח, והגשם התאדה בדרך לאדמה ולא הגיע אליה.
Day 9: Swing
I drew this after Yom Kippur officially ended.
כפרות :) ציירתי במוצאי יום הכיפורים.
Day 10: Pattern
A Pattern in aviation is a "thing" :)
Pattern in Art is also a "thing".
So this is my combination of the two.
המילה הזו, בעברית, ניתנת לתרגום כדפוס, או תבנית. בעיצוב זה עניין רציני.
בתעופה, המילה המסויימת הזו מתייחסת לדפוס הטיסה סביב שדה התעופה.
זה השילוב שלי בין השניים.
Day 11: Snow
Israel doesn't really have snowy mountain ranges, and Israeli glider pilots usually go to Saint Auban to fly mountains. It's still on my ToDo list, so this drawing is a combination of a number of photos, and my imagination. All in the name of shape-design and "Notan". Until I make a real memory from a place like that :)
בארצנו הקטנטונת אין באמת רכסי הרים מושלגים, והדואים הישראליים בדרך כלל נוסעים לסנט אובן בשביל דאיית הרים. אצלי זה עוד ברשימת ה"לעשות", אז עד שיהיה לי זיכרון משלי ממקום כזה, ערבבתי כמה תמונות וקצת דמיון לצורך הרפרנס, הכל בשם עיצוב שחור-לבן ו"נוטן".
Day 12: Dragon

אין לי כל כך מה להגיד, חוץ מזה שאני מרגישה שטכניקת הדיו שלי משתפרת :)

Day 13: Ash
So many of the forests in Israel are man-made. It's heartbreaking when they burn down. If they do - we plant them again.
כל כך הרבה מהיערות בארץ הם מעשה ידי אדם. זה שובר את הלב לראות אותם נשרפים. ואם נשרפו - תמיד ניטע אותם מחדש.
Day 14: Overgrown
This is drawn from my imagination, but it's a real story:
The motor glider is real, and so is the guy.
This would be at least a decade before I ever got into flying.
The motor glider was standing outside the hangar, and the weeds would grow through the wings. This guy, a real-life MacGyver, would stop every time he walked past it, and look around, peer into the cockpit, until one day, he and a bunch of other cool guys got together.
They bought it off the previous owner, fixed it up new, and learned to fly it, and taught others to fly in it, too.
I got to fly in this lovely thing on several occasions, for fun, and for landing-out training. I had this image stuck in my head ever since I heard the story, and now I've finally put it down on paper.
ציירתי מהדימיון, אבל הסיפור אמיתי: הדאון הממונע הוא אמיתי, וכך גם האיש.
זה היה לפחות עשור לפני שבכלל הגעתי לדאייה. הדאון עמד מחוץ להנגאר, והעשבים צמחו לו דרך הכנפיים. הבחור הזה, מקגייוור אמיתי, היה עוצר כל פעם שעבר לידו, מסתכל, מציץ לתוך הקוקפיט, עד שיום אחד הוא וחבורה של עוד אנשים עם ידיים טובות התארגנו ביחד.
הם קנו את הדאון מהבעלים הקודם, שיפצו אותו כמו חדש, למדו להטיס אותו, ולימדו אחרים לטוס עליו גם כן. יצא לי לטוס בו כמה וכמה פעמים, בשביל הכיף ובשביל אימון לנחיתות חוץ.
התמונה הזו תקועה לי בראש מאז ששמעתי את הסיפור, והנה סוף סוף יש לה הזדמנות לצאת אל הדף.
Day 15: Legend
Menachem Bar, true aviator, pretty much started our gliding club. Oh, and built and shaped the Israeli Air Force in its formative years.
מנחם בר, איש תעופה, התחיל את מה שהפך להיות מועדון הדאייה שלנו (מגידו). אה, וגם הקים ועיצב את חיל האויר בשנותיו המוקדמות :)
Day 16: Wild
It's Pelican migration season - I see them every day now. Master Thermalers, they fly in magnificent spiral formations, switching between black and white. If there is one thing that makes soaring worth the effort, it's the ability to fly in close with the birds.
זו עונת הנדידה של השקנאים, אני רואה אותם כל יום עכשיו. מלכי התרמיקות, הם טסים במבנים מסודרים, בספירלות מרהיבות שמחליפות צבעים בין שחור ולבן. אם יש דבר אחד שבשבילו שווה המאמץ שבדאייה, זו היכולת לטוס קרוב עם הציפורים.
Day 17: ornament
I finally landed today's word on an Art Deco theme. I've always loved the drama in these designs.
הפעם - ארט דקו. תמיד אהבתי את הדרמטיות של העיצובים האלה.
Day 18: Misfit
This drawing turned out a lot messier than I'd intended. Anyway, the guys in my club are lovely and I love them but being the only woman in the room can be challenging sometimes. There are three of us right now, actually, but both the other two ladies are abroad, and so here I am, again :P
הציור הזה יצא הרבה יותר מקושקש ממה שהתכוונתי. בכל אופן, החברים במועדון שלנו הם אחלה ואני מאד אוהבת אותם, אבל לפעמים קשה להיות האישה היחידה בחדר. אנחנו שלוש עכשיו, אבל שתי הטייסות האחרות בחו"ל אז הנה אני ככה, שוב.
Day 19: Sling
When you run out of hangar space, you start slinging the gliders from the ceiling.
כשנגמר המקום בהנגאר, אנחנו מתחילים לתלות דאונים מהתקרה.
Day 20: Tread
The shadows of the clouds look like ink spots, showing me the way to an adventure.
This was hard to draw; I still need to figure out how to draw a city from above.
הצללים של העננים נראים כמו כתמי דיו, מסמנים לי את הדרך להרפתקה.
זה היה לי קשה לצייר - עוד לא פיצחתי איך לצייר עיר מלמעלה.
Day 21: Treasure
Like all pilots, I think, I treasure my Logbook. Every line in it is the record of an experience, a memory, an adventure.
כמו כל הטייסים, כך נדמה לי, אני אוצרת בדבקות את יומן הטיסות שלי. כל שורה בו היא תיעוד של חוויה, זיכרון, הרפתקה.
Day 22: Ghost
My ghost is Ilan Ramon, First Israeli Astronaut aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia.
When I was a little girl, I wanted to be an Astronaut. The space shuttle was my generation's spaceship, and I wanted to fly it.
In February 2003 I was on a semester break from art school, working for the national parks in the Caves of Qumran. The area around the Dead Sea looks like the moon.
I lay on the bench there and thought happily about our man in space, pretending I was on another planet.
רוח הרפאים שלי הוא אילן רמון, האסטרונאוט הישראלי הראשון, במעבורת החלל קולומביה.
כשהייתי ילדה רציתי להיות אסטרונאוטית. מעבורת החלל הייתה החללית של הדור שלי, ואני רציתי להטיס אותה.
בפברואר 2003 הייתי בחופשת סמסטר מבצלאל, ועבדתי ברשות שמורות הטבע במערות קומראן. אזור ים המלח נראה כמו הירח. שכבתי שם על הספסל וחשבתי באושר על האיש שלנו בחלל, מדמיינת שאני על כוכב אחר.
Day 23: Ancient
My gliding club - Megiddo Soaring Center, is named after Tel Megiddo. Everything within a 10 Km radius is named Megiddo-something 😊
You probably know it by its Greek name, Armageddon.
The Megiddo airstrip is in the middle of the Jesreel Valley, and I fly over half the Bible every time I take off. For me, they are real places.
Tel Megiddo is truly extraordinary - it's a layered-archeological-cake of ancient civilizations, dating back to the Chalcolithic period, which is about 6,000 years ago.
המועדון שלי – מרכז דאייה מגידו, קרוי על שם תל-מגידו. כל דבר ברדיוס עשרה קילומטר נקרא משהו-מגידו 😊
התיירים מכירים אותו בשם "ארמגדון", האתר בו תתחולל יום אחד מלחמת גוג ומגוג.
מנחת מגידו נמצא באמצע עמק יזרעאל, וכל פעם שאני ממריאה אני חולפת מעל חצי מהתנ"ך + הברית החדשה. בשבילי אלה מקומות אמיתיים.
פעם מזמן הייתי מדריכה תרבות יום א' לחיילים בתל מגידו. זה מקום מדהים – עוגת שכבות ארכיאולוגית שמתחילה מהתקופה הכלקוליתית, שזה בערך לפני 6000 שנה.
Day 24: Dizzy
I grew up in Be'er Sheva, on the edge of the desert, where thermals are visible. We call dust devils "Al-Ol", and if I tried translating that word it would be a combination of "rolling" and "rising". Great word LOL.
אני בכלל מבאר שבע, איפה שהעלעולים רצים חופשי ואפשר לראות אותם לגובה וגם לרוחק.
Day 25: Tasty

Day 26: Dark
It's officially winter now. I started drawing the dark clouds in a realistic fashion and totally bored myself, so I started over and tried this graphic approach.
זה רשמית חורף עכשיו. התחלתי לצייר את העננים הכהים בצורה ריאליסטית, ושעממתי את עצמי לגמרי, אז התחלתי מחדש וניסיתי מן כזה סגנון גראפי.
Day 27: Coat
Sometimes I think glider covers could be a little more lively :)
לפעמים אני חושבת שהכיסויים של הדאונים יכולים להיות קצת יותר מעניינים :)
Day 28: Ride
One of the nicest things you can do with a glider, is give someone a ride.
אחד הדברים הנחמדים שאפשר לעשות בדאון, הוא לקחת מישהי לסיבוב.
Day 29: Injured
Well, what can I say. It's sad.
המילה של היום - פצוע. זה עצוב, מה כבר אפשר להגיד.
Day 30: Catch
My somewhat fantastic interpretation of catching a thermal.
The top came out almost, but not entirely, completely unlike what I had wanted LOL
הפרשנות הפנטסטית-משהו שלי לתפיסת תרמיקה.
החלק העליון שלה יצא כמעט, אבל לא לגמרי, בכלל לא מה שרציתי :)
Day 31: Ripe
DONE!!!!
This is the last drawing and I haven't missed a day!!!
A very fitting subject for the final drawing - the ceremonial shower after a first solo :)
זהו!!!! זה הציור האחרון ולא פיספסתי אף יום!
הנושא מתאים מאד לסיכום - המקלחת המסורתית לאחר סולו ראשון. נחיתות רכות לכולם!
